The Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition

Flagstaff has been a leader in dark-sky protection since 1958, and you can find a wide variety of general and technical information on the FDSC’s website.

The Dark Skies and Emerging Technology Conference

In August 2014, the City of Flagstaff, Lowell Observatory, and the Keystone Center of Keystone CO convened a conference to examine the opportunities and challenges associated with dark-sky preservation as LED technology becomes increasingly widely adopted.  At this website, you’ll find a great deal of useful information, including all the presentations from the conference as well as videos of all the talks.  These talks focused on astronomical, visual, health, safety, and ecological aspects of dark-sky preservation.

The International Dark-Sky Association

The IDA is the leading international organization for dark-sky protection worldwide.  Visit their site to obtain extensive information dark-sky protection, as well as on how your region or community can join Flagstaff and other communities as a recognized dark-sky place.
