The 4.3-meter DCT is Lowell's premier research tool.

Lowell Observatory's Discovery Channel Telescope (DCT) is now complete and into advanced commissioning. Located about 40 miles southeast of Flagstaff, the DCT is the product of a shared vision by Lowell Observatory and Discovery Communications to build a world-class research telescope that is uniquely positioned to bring the results of astronomical discovery to a global audience. First light was achieved in mid 2012. In early 2013, engineering and commissioning tests have been supplemented by a modest number of science observing nights for staff from Lowell and our partner institutions. The DCT era is underway!
