SUMMARY:Messier Marathon | International Star Party | March 18-19\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Messier Marathon is upon us! Join Lowell Observatory for an all-night virtual star party\, during which we’ll hunt for all 110 objects in Charles Messier’s famous catalog. These are among the most prominent deep-sky objects visible in the night sky\, including a variety of star clusters\, nebulae\, and galaxies. We’ll broadcast live from the Giovale Open Deck Observatory (GODO)\, using our state-of-the-art 14″ PlaneWave telescope and MallinCam system. Throughout the night\, we’ll hear from members of Lowell’s superstar educator staff about what we’re viewing\, facts about the Messier catalog\, and much more. There are sure to be plenty of laughs and fun along the way\, too! You can also download your own Messier Objects sheet to check off the objects you find with us at lowell.edu/messier-objects. \n*Note: Programming may be canceled due to inclement weather.

SUMMARY:The Artemis Exploration Zone at the Lunar South Pole
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. David Kring\, from The Center for Lunar Science & Exploration\, for a talk about The Artemis Exploration Zone. The successful launch and flight of Artemis I to the Moon is the first stage of an Artemis program that explores the Moon and develops a capability to press deeper into the Solar System. The next mission\, Artemis II\, will provide astronauts with an opportunity to orbit the Moon. Those two missions pave the way for Artemis III\, which will land astronauts at the lunar south pole in 2025. This evening you can hear from one of the scientists studying Artemis landing sites and his description of possible astronaut activities in that south polar terrain. \n*This event is free to the public.
