North Plaza Spectrum Benches

Celebrate Light with a Colorful Bench!

The North Plaza Walkway leads guests from the Marley Foundation Astronomy Discovery Center to outdoor telescope viewing at the Giovale Open Deck Observatory. The sixteen benches lining this beautiful pathway celebrate the electromagnetic spectrum.

Each colorfully painted bench represents one small slice of the light that human eyes use to see the world and learn about the stars. At night, the pathway is gently illuminated with inlaid glow stones allowing the wonders of Flagstaff’s Dark Skies to come alive. The benches provide a comfortable space for guests to relax and ready their dark-adapted eyes for their nighttime Lowell experience.
