DESCRIPTION:2026 I Heart Pluto Festival Night of Discovery at the Orpheum Theater\nJoin us for a Night of Discovery\, on the evening of February 14 at the Orpheum Theater! \nSeparate ticket required General admission tickets\, as well as a VIP option that allows access to a private reception with the presenters prior to the main program\, are available here at the Read More link below. \n\n5pm – 6pm VIP reception\n6pm – 7pm Doors Open to public\n7pm – 8:45pm Main Program\n9pm – 10pm Book Signing\n\nMeet Eminent Space Experts \nHeadlining this year’s event is a presentation that explores our past\, present\, and future understanding of one of the most storied and celebrated bodies in our solar system\, Pluto. \nParticipants include: \n\nDr. Alan Stern\, Principal Investigator of the New Horizons mission. \nDr. Chad Trujillo\, co-discoverer of the massive dwarf planet Eris\, whose discovery led to the reclassification of Pluto 20 years ago.\nAndy Chaikin\, award-winning science journalist and author of A Man on the Moon\, the classic book about the Apollo mission to the Moon and the basis of the Tom Hanks HBS miniseries From the Earth to the Moon.\nDave Eicher\, Emeritus Editor in Chief of Astronomy magazine\, will moderate the discussion\n\nOther presentations include: \n\nAlice Bowman\, Mission Operations Manager of the New Horizons Mission\, will also be on hand to gift Lowell Observatory a scale model of the New Horizons spacecraft.\nArizona State Representative Justin Wilmeth\, who authored the bill recognizing Pluto as Arizona’s official state planet\, will give an update about his efforts to establish a spaceport in Arizona.\nChristopher Fox Graham\, Editor of the Sedona Red Rock News\, will perform a poem he wrote about Route 66 and its space heritage.\nStoker Stoker\, Lowell Observatory Senior Presentation Specialist\, will share the remarkable connection between Route 66 and Pluto.\n\nBooks by some of the presenters\, as well as commemorative posters and other items that may be signed by the presenters\, will be available for purchase onsite. \nExplore Space Art Displays \nThe International Astronomical Artists Association (IAAA) will display a variety of space- themed art throughout the Orpheum. SUMMARY:2024 I Heart Pluto Festival’s Night of Discovery
DESCRIPTION:Lowell Observatory is thrilled to announce the keynote speaker of the 2024 I Heart Pluto Festival’s Night of Discovery event: Diana Gabaldon\, a celebrated and award-winning author and great-granddaughter of Stanley Sykes\, a pivotal figure in Lowell’s history. \nTo start off the Night of Discovery event\, sponsored by Unisource Energy Services\, Lowell Historian Kevin Schindler will take the audience through the day that Pluto was discovered by 23-year-old self-taught astronomer Clyde Tombaugh. This will be followed by Gabaldon’s keynote presentation\, which will pertain to her mission to bridge science\, history\, and awe through her writing. \nHer presentation will be followed by a book signing session\, with copies of her work available for purchase. \nThe Night of Discovery will also include an art show featuring works by members of the International Association of Astronomical Artists (IAAA).  \nPurchase tickets here!
