We live in a paradoxical time where science and technology dominate human culture, while, in certain domains, scientific results have become so highly politicized that it threatens the health of the entire endeavor. In this dangerous historical moment, 2021 Sagan Medal Winner Dr. Adam Frank discusses how researchers can bridge the cultural gaps of polarization by following Carl Sagan’s example to lead with Science’s great beauty and promise.

The Carl Sagan Medal (“Sagan Medal”) is awarded annually by the Division for Planetary Sciences of the American Astronomical Society. It recognizes and honors outstanding communication by an active planetary scientist to the general public.
