Astronomy on Tap: To Mars and Back?
Join us at Mother Road Brewing Co. on the 25th at 6:30pm for this month’s Astronomy on Tap!
This month’s speaker is USGS scientist Alicia Vaughan, who will talk about her involvement in the Perseverance Rover mission. Alicia Vaughan is a Co-I on the Mastcam-Z instrument on the Perseverance rover, and a member of the Mars 2020 Science Team. Her research focuses on using reflectance spectroscopy to investigate geologic materials. She started her Martian career at the Jet Propulsion Lab in CA working on the Spirit and Opportunity rovers, which she considers her first children. After moving to Flagstaff, she took a long detour into public education, fulfilling a childhood dream of being a teacher. She returned to Mars along with the Mars 2020 mission and is thrilled to be back to her first love, robotic exploration of Mars!
