Dr. Momo Ellwarth
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Dr. Momo Ellwarth is a postdoctoral researcher at Lowell Observatory, where she has been working since January 2025 at the intersection of solar physics and extreme precision radial velocity (EPRV) science. Her research focuses on understanding how magnetic activity and convective processes in the Sun affect spectroscopic observations, with the goal of improving the detection of Earth-like exoplanets.
Using high-resolution solar spectra from the Lowell Observatory Solar Telescope (LOST), in combination with the EXtreme PREcision Spectrograph (EXPRES) on the 4.3-m Lowell Discovery Telescope (LDT), she performs detailed line-by-line analyses to investigate activity signatures across different wavelength regions.
More broadly, her work aims to build a more holistic understanding of stellar variability by treating the Sun as both a spatially integrated and spatially resolved star, providing a crucial benchmark for interpreting observations of other stars.
