Donation Request Form Qualifications

Lowell Observatory is committed to supporting educational and community initiatives that align with our mission of science education, outreach, and discovery. To ensure that donation requests are reviewed fairly and equitably, we have established the following guidelines and criteria for approval.

Eligibility Criteria

Each organization can apply for up to two donation requests per calendar year. Organizations requesting donated tickets should at least two of the following qualifications:

  1. Nonprofit Status
    1. Be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
    2. Proof of nonprofit status is required with each request.
  2. Mission Alignment
    1. Organizations must support STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education, environmental science, space exploration, or scientific literacy.
    2. Priority will be given to groups focused on educational outreach, particularly those serving underrepresented or underserved communities.
  3. Active Partnerships
    1. Organizations with existing partnerships with Lowell Observatory, will receive priority consideration.
  4. Public Benefit & Accessibility
    1. Events or programs supported by the donation must be open to the public or provide clear educational benefits to the community.
    2. Organizations promoting accessibility to STEM education for low-income or marginalized groups will be prioritized.

Exclusions

Lowell Observatory does not provide donations for:

  • Political campaigns, religious organizations, or lobbying groups
  • Private events or corporate functions
  • Requests that do not demonstrate a strong alignment with Lowell’s mission

 

Types of Donations Available

Approved organizations may receive one of the following:

  • General admission tickets to Lowell Observatory for educational groups (up to 2 per request)
    • Value: $80
  • Discounted group visits
  • Lowell-branded educational materials or merchandise (subject to availability)

Application Process

To request a donation, organizations must:

  1. Complete the Lowell Observatory Donation Request Form.
  2. Provide documentation of nonprofit status (IRS determination letter or equivalent).
  3. Submit a brief description of how the donation will be used, including event details and expected community impact.
  4. Submit the request at least four weeks in advance of the event or program date.

Review and Approval

  • Requests will be reviewed by Lowell Observatory’s outreach and development teams.
  • Due to high demand, not all requests can be fulfilled.
  • Organizations will be notified of their request status within two weeks of submission.
