Great news – the 2019 Nobel Prize in physics has been awarded to three astronomers/astrophysicists!

Canadian cosmologist Jim Peebles is a pioneer in the study of the origin and evolution of the universe. For more than half a century his innovative work has helped provide a strong theoretical framework for modern observational cosmology.

Swiss exoplanet hunters Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz are recognized for their discovery of the first planet orbiting a Sun-like star beyond our solar system. Their discovery ushered in a golden age of exoplanet research, with more 4,000 now known and more being discovered daily. The video below shows the accelerating pace of exoplanet discoveries.
