Be a Part of the New Astronomy Discovery Center
Playing with magnets, foam rockets, colored light, and other hands-on experiments will help children build a foundation for future science learning – and it’s fun! Interactive exhibits in the Curiosity Zone children’s hall will fuel children’s interest in and understanding of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). See the list below for exhibits you can sponsor.

Sponsorship Opportunities
Space Station Climber
Children will be invited to role play traveling in space inside this special climber. The climber will be divided into two sections to allow different age groups to explore safely.

Pluie's Place (Quiet Area)
When children are ready for a break from high-energy activities in the gallery, they can enjoy astronomy puzzles, books, and light-themed games in this quiet area.

Energy Tracks
Children attach tubular track sections to a wall using magnets and create a path for a ball to follow. The variety of track pieces and ball sizes teaches about kinetic energy and problem-solving.

Colored Shadows
In a darkened space, visitors move around to watch their multicolored shadows dance on a wall. Using switches, they can experiment with covering different light sources to alter the colored projections.

Rocket Launcher
Children will build their own foam rocket and launch it toward a target from a gantry to learn about experimentation and aerodynamics, or to just enjoy watching it soar!

Marzee's Playground
Suited for children up to age two, this area offers textured surfaces, shape sorting, mirrors, and soft toys to encourage natural curiosity.

Optics Table
Children will be invited to manipulate beams of light using diffraction grating elements, prisms, and mirrors. The exhibit introduces one of the most important concepts in astronomy: light carries information.

Welcome Exhibit
The Welcome Exhibit will invite families to take their picture in a spaceship alongside the two main characters of the exhibit gallery: Marzee and Pluie!

Everything Spins
Visitors will experiment with a rotating tabletop by controlling its speed and spinning objects across its surface.

Back Wall Mural 16' x 35'
This huge mural will create an immersive space that ignites children’s imaginations. Playful images and thoughtful text will spark curiosity and help children engage with the gallery.

Wind Tubes
Children will create flying contraptions using a variety of objects and place them in a wind tube to discover the impact of gravity and force.

Infrared Camera
An infrared camera will point down toward a table with objects. Children will observe the objects in a monitor glowing at different levels of brightness which represent temperature. They can place their hands on the table and experiment with different objects under the camera.

Plasma Ball
Plasma is a lesser-known, but very common state of matter and this classic hands-on exhibit encourages visitors to explore electricity and current.

Imaginary Observatory Telescopes (2)
Children will be able to peer through and manipulate two different telescopes. One has a kaleidoscope attachment and the other allows children to find objects around the room.

Cosmic Cart
This cart holds supplies for science experiments and take-home materials for children. Lowell educators will use the cart to engage with families and offer programs during events.

Sand Pendulum
Children will set into motion a six-foot tall pendulum suspended over sand to learn about motion, momentum, and pattern.

Cloud Rings
A diaphragm built into a table will emit clouds of vapor as children press on it to experiment and discover how different amounts of pressure affect the clouds created.

Children play with magnetism at two tables: one for manipulating metal filings under a glass surface and one for building metal sculptures.

Designed for children ages two to four, this is a perfect place for the quietly curious to thrive. Puzzles and games invite children to explore with their hands in a calming environment.
