On the evening of July 23, Lowell Observatory is pleased to present a free live virtual event featuring Comet NEOWISE (C/2020 F3). This is the same evening that the comet makes its closest approach to Earth (about 64 million miles/103 million kilometers).
Beginning at 8:30 p.m. AZ/PDT (11:30 p.m. EDT) Lowell Observatory Astronomer and comet expert Dr. Dave Schleicher will join Observatory Director Dr. Jeff Hall in discussing Comet NEOWISE. They will highlight the scientific importance of this “dirty iceball” and how to view it
If the weather permits, Lowell educators will also show live views of the comet from Lowell Observatory’s Giovale Open Deck Observatory. If the skies are cloudy, educators will showcase some of the comet images captured at the observatory over the past week.
